How to change comments

Post by Marcel » Fri Sep 21, 2007 5:21 am

In the history explorer all versions of a file are shown including comments. When I select "Details..." two comments are shown: change set comment and item comment. I want to change these comments. In the version details window two buttons are shown for these purposes. But they are greyed out and I cannot change these comments. Why are these buttons not active?

Thanks,
Marcel

The user who created the transaction should be able to change the comment. Otherwise the admin account can also make changes.

The user who created the transaction is not able to change the comment. The admin account is.

I'll ask someone in QA recreate that.

FWIW, here is a section from the Transaction Details Help:
In addition, the Change Set Comment is displayed, and can be edited if the user who made the change is the one viewing the details (or the user is the Admin user).

Status?

Hello Jeff,

Has your QA department tested this issue?
Because the same problem exists for other users.
Perhaps there is something wrong with our Fortress installation?

Regards,
Marcel

Marcel:

I personally tested this last month, but did not respond. Sorry about that.

In any case, in my tests a user can modify their own comments OR the ADMIN user can modify the comments. I tested with Fortress Client 1.0.4.15848.

Here was my test:

1) Show History on a Folder. On the Query History dialog, I chose to Show History by Version.

2) On the list of versions, I chose a different user, and clicked details. Both the Change Set Command and Change Set Item Comment buttons were disabled.

3) Closed that Details Dialog.

4) Chose a version where the user creating the transaction was the same as the logged in user, and clicked Details.

5) Clicked within the Change Set comment, and the Edit button was enabled to change the details. Edited a comment, and closed that dialog.

6) Highlighted one of the Change Set Items below, and the Edit Item Comment button was enabled. I clicked that button and edited the comment for the item.

--------------

A) Can you re-verify this with the same steps?

B) If you think it is an Fortress installation problem, you could Un-Install your Fortress Client, make sure the Program Files\SourceGear\Fortress Client has been removed and re-install.

I'll be awaiting for your reply.

Hello Jeff,

I did the steps you wrote, but unfortunately I still cannot change my own comments. I uninstalled an reinstalled the Fortress Client, but this had no effect.

Fortress client is version 1.0.1.15780
Fortress server is version 1.0.1.15780

I see. I tested on 1.0.4. Can you un-install 1.0.1, download 1.0.4 (or 1.0.5), install it and then re-try?

The fortress Download can be found at http://www.sourcegear.com/fortress/downloads.html

I installed the 1.0.5 Fortress Client and this solves the problem!
