Help! HOw can I successfully upgrade from 3.0.4 to 3.5.0?

Help!

We have made several attempts to upgrade from 3.0.4 to 3.5.0 in the past, but keep deferring because its always seems to be too time consuming and frustrating. However, we really want to move forward, so I have taken it upon myself to try and get it sorted for our team, once and for all!

We are using SQL Server 2005 and Windows XP using a backup of our database for a test run. Configuration wise, I've exhausted all of install options trying to get it to work, but the upgrade always ends in error message -1280 with text similar to the following:

OK
Configuring your new Vault Installation
Requesting Vault Admin user password...OK
Connecting to the SQL Server...OK
Verifying the SQL Server requirements...OK
Checking for an existing Vault database...Found.
Asking for database's fate...Keep existing.
Upgrading the existing Vault database...
This may take a long time. Do NOT stop this process!
Checking the installed database version...OK
Grant database access to DEVELOPMENT\MYPC$...OK
Upgrading SourceGear Vault database schema...Database 'SGVault' is already open and can only have one user at a time.
Caution: Changing any part of an object name could break scripts and stored procedures.
Vault Setup is exiting due to a failure or cancellation. Error Code = -1280

Can any provide any useful suggestions please to get us off our remote 3.0.4 island?

You will need to perform that upgrade in steps. Can you send me an email at support at sourcegear.com (attn: Beth) with a link to this forum post? I will send you more instructions then.

Also, you will need to restore the original database before starting the upgrade again as well.
