eclipse, working file deletion

Post by rogerp » Tue Sep 04, 2007 10:31 pm

Hi,
I am trialling Vault (4.04.15848), looking to migrate us from VSS
We have about 8 developers, and a few thousand files.

There was a query earlier about how deleting the project in vault caused
the working directory to be deleted. The above version does the same thing.

Is this issue near a resolution?

I also tried it in Eclipse, (Which I am also trialling) and have had difficulties with it.

One issue is that I don't seem to be able to just point eclipse at a bunch of working folders (already in vault), call it a project and then use
the vault plugin on the files there.

It seems to require me to either import into vault, or share from vault.

I don't know that I really like eclipse, its far too fat for the machine I am running, and all I really want is a bit of syntax highlighting but there are people here use it all the time, and like it a lot.

Our development model for our main projects (web applications) is kind of strange, and non recommended, but works well for us. We all share the same set of development/working files on a file server. Where read only/locked files are necessary to prevent developers stepping on each others files.

It also puts other restrictions on what we can do, and not having real folders vanish when playing with directories in the source control system is up there with them.

Apart from these couple of issues it seems to work quite well.

Roger,

It sounds like you have a lot of specific needs. Mail me your phone number using the button below this post, and we'll talk about the what Vault can do.
