Upgrade to 4.0.4?

Upgrade to 4.0.4?
I have been running along fine for the most part with Vault 3.5.2 for quite some time now and have defered upgrading to 4.0 due to the number of issues I have seen reported. I was wondering if anyone has had success with the 4.0.4 release and if anyone has made the jump from 3.5 to 4.0? I haven't seen as many issues reported on the latest 4.0 release but wanted to know if there were any major issues with it and VS 2005.
We upgraded last week.
If we could roll back to 3.5 without losing a week's worth of work, we would in a heartbeat.
We've had a lot of issues with the new VS 2005 plug-in, and even when we get things working, and although we kind of like some of the new features, we really miss the tree view for pending check-ins. We had situations with cryptic error messages, broken bindings, missing icons, and working folders suddenly being disassociated from the Vault projects.
The new web-based admin tool is awful. It's completely non-intuitive in design, it posts back every time you click a checkbox, and it's very slow.
In my opinion, Vault 4.0 was released prematurely, with not nearly enough quality assurance. I wish we'd waited.

We've been using 4.0.x for quite a while now, and have had only 1 minor problem with it that I can think of. That minor problem was fixed in a subsequent point release. We have never used any of the IDE integrations, as Visual Studio says that we are idiots and tries to change our folder structure.
Overall, we are very happy with it.

Last week, I sent you some SQL to run which should have sped up the Admin tool drastically for you (since you have over 100 repositories). Did that work for you? It's a fix which will be included in 4.0.5, so please let me know if the admin tool is still much too slow for you.
Dont do it
You would be mad to upgrade yet. We upgraded from 3.5 to 4.0 and then to 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3 and now 4.0.4 This is the first time we have been able to use our source control. It appears to work but then every now and then will just freeze up visual studio and upset your machine. You are in the lovely position of having a working source control why mess that up.
If they do not fix it soon we will be leaving and looking for an alternative!!!!!

There have been many improvements in Vault 4.0.4.
Some issues remain regarding the VS 2005 integration client (sometimes referred to as VSIP integration). There are still some project configurations that are not supported -- for instance, when a project file is bound to source control but the solution file is not. This will be fixed.
We recognize that the VS 2005 client is a work in progress. Its full potential will come in future releases.
One thing I want to point out is --
If you have concerns about using the VS 2005 integration client -- you don't have to use it.
You can upgrade to Vault 4.0.x and continue to use the MSSCCI (VS 2003 -compatible) client. It works well with VS 2005. This is the same integration used in Vault 3.5 and previous versions. If you are considering upgrading from an earlier version of Vault, all your projects are already using VS 2003 integration, and you can continue to use this.
New users to Vault can also use VS 2003 integration. Just choose this as the plugin in VS 2005->Tools->Options->Source Control->Plugin selection

We've just upgraded from 3.5.2 to 4.0.4 and for the most part are happy with it.
One nice and unexpected improvement is that one of our automated builds that pulls 230MB from Vault fresh each time is running incredibly faster.
For the most part we like the new VS.Net 2005 client. Lots of cool features, although I have some minor issues which I will post separately.
I'd like to second the comment about the tree view of pending checkins - that was definitely a nice feature. I hope the Sourcegear team can revive it.
