Vault Client performance better for new user

Post by Tom.Wells » Tue Aug 14, 2007 10:18 am

I noticed that when I got a new machine and installed Vault it was much faster starting. Later as I expanded folders, and retrieved various projects it got slower to load. Recently I setup a new employee and their Vault was very fast to start.

What can I clean out to renew the startup speed?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you referring to the performance of the Vault GUI client?

Yes, it's the Vault GUI Client. The time it takes to first display the workspace is about the same but the time it takes to display the list of folders increases with use. It seems as I expand more folders, or have copies of more projects (all files within a folder) the time it takes to build the folder structure increases.

How big is your repository?

I did a properties on the root of the repository and it says that there are 85 subfolders, the tree size is 194 MB and the disk space needed is 388 MB. Is that want you wanted?

If you can, we'd like to have you temporarily unset your working folders. Can you let us know if this has any effect?

Well that was interesting. I removed the working folder and it did load faster. After putting it back on it didn't much slower. I tried it both ways many times. All start times were acceptable. When I have had to wait it has been on the "retrieving folder structure..." message. I wonder if I have a network congestion or server load problem. I thought I was seeing a pattern. Consider the question closed. I'll repost if something changes.
