SOS on Windows 2003 crashing

Post by CouloirSoftware » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:09 am

In years past, SOS has worked great on Windows 2000. About a year ago, I reinstalled on win2003. It has always crashed when one tries to use it too much. For example, get-latest recursive will crash the server, requiring a reboot to function again. I have asked before, and I think I was advised to reinstall Java. I did that, but it still happens. It just happened again getting latest on only 4 files.

What can I do to fix this?

So, you never answer posted questions? What kind of support is this?

Sorry, just missed seeing it.

Can you tell me what version of VSS you are using?

Also, what is the exact automation component number? Instructions on how to find that are here: Automation Component Version.

From VSS Admin: VSS 6.0c (Build 9447)

Following the instructions regarding the automation component:

6.0.93.50

Can you easily reproduce this behavior? It'd also be helpful to know how many clients you have connecting to the server, and of those, how many experience this problem.

I can pretty easily reproduce the problem. All I need to do is select a normal dev directory, and get-latest recursive. The server then becomes non accessible over the web. IIS will not server web sites, SOS won't connect, etc. The server itself still appears ok. We then go onto the server (directly on the box, since remote desktop won't connect), and reboot the machine normally.

It has happened by getting as few as 4 files at once. I only have about 3 people using the archive, but we have reproduced it from multiple different computers.

Ok, I think I might have an idea. Can you tell me which version of the .net framework is installed on the Server machine?

On the server machine, in your SourceOffSite server directory, can you please email me the *.exe.config files that you have there?

Don't see a .config file like that. Do you want to see for your self? I can start a GoToMeeting.

That won't be necessary. Give me a half hour or so and I'll have a possible solution for you.

Unzip this file and add it to your SourceOffSite Server directory on the Server machine. Then restart the SourceOffSite service (through the Services administrator-control-panel).

Ok, did that. At least one get-latest recursive worked. I'll be doing them now with reckless abandon, and I'll let you know if I have any more trouble. Thanks for the great support. Btw, what was the problem? Not pointing to the right .net version?

If all holds together well, yes that was the problem.

2K3 Server comes pre-configured to use the 2.0 framework by default, so we need to specify that we want to load with the 1.1 version.
