Application has generated an exception
Getting an error when launching the GUI. I had Vault 4.x installed and had to uninstall it because one of the servers that I connect to is 3.5.
So, I uninstalled 4.0.2 and installed 3.5.x
I now get this error when loading the GUI.
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0x768 (1896), Thread id=0x900 (2304).
I deleted stuff from the temp directories for the cache, etc. No luck. I enabled logging and here is the log below.
8/6/2007 12:25:51 AM <generic>: [<No Name>:1776] VaultGUIClient, Version=3.5.2.5087, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null
at VaultLib.SimpleLogger.set_LogFilePath(String)
at VaultLib.SimpleLogger.ConfigureFromAppSettings(String)
at VaultGUIClient.VaultGUIClientMain.Main()
8/6/2007 12:25:51 AM <generic>: [<No Name>:1776] Logging all classes
at VaultLib.SimpleLogger.ConfigureFromAppSettings(String)
at VaultGUIClient.VaultGUIClientMain.Main()
Please help. Work is at a stand still for myself.

This one will have to do more with the installation of the program rather than cache files.
Try an uninstall again, and then remove any files that may be left over such as the cache and then run a registry check for Vault. You shouldn't need the registry entries for Vault. Then reboot the computer and reinstall. Try and make sure you are using the same version as the server. The best way is to go to http:\\<your Vault server>\vaultservice and download the client from that page.

I did exactly what you suggested. I uninstalled, removed all registry items, cache, etc.... Reboot, reinstalled, same error. The server is the same version. I have tried nearly everything I can think of....
Vault works within Visual Studio 2005. I can check out, check in, etc. It is just the actual client itself that does not work.
Please help!

When you said that you removed the cache, did you follow the steps that was outlined in this article? http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=6
Please clear your cache, according to those explanations, and try to reinstall the 3.5.3 client.

Just followed these instructions to no avail. Trying to install 4 first, then 3.Terence wrote:When you said that you removed the cache, did you follow the steps that was outlined in this article? http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=6

I will let you know how that goes.

OK. I uninstalled both. Cleared all the registry entries and the cache (per the instructions linked above), then installed 4.0.2. I then installed 3.5.2 without uninstalling 4.0.2.
I tried to launch Vault, it was version 4.0.2. I then uninstalled 4.0.2 from Add/Remove Programs, reinstalled 3.5.2, tried to launch Vault and it was 4.0.2?!?!
So, I uninstalled 4.0.2, uninstalled 3.5.2, installed 3.5.2, launched it, got the same error as where I started.
This is going to really suck if I have to reinstall the OS just because I needed to uninstall 4.0.2 and use version 3.5.2 instead.
I can get 4.0.2 working without any problem. I just can't get 3.5.2 working since I upgraded to 4.0.2. Once the upgrade happens, forget it, you can NEVER go back! Kind of a shame.

I'm sorry for this confusion.
The previous advice that I had given earlier about installing 3.5.2 with 4.x still installed was wrong. These are the steps we'd like for you to try.

- Completely uninstall 4.x and 3.5.2
- Clear out the cache files according to the explanations in the cache
- Install 3.5.2
