Hello:
We are preparing to roll out Rational XDE (UML Modeling tool) for use with Visual Studio.Net 2003.
I have learned that Rational XDE uses some special merge behavior when merging its modules into source control. IBM cautions that the source control tool must be compatible with XDE or corruption of the model files can occur.
The source control tool must somehow allow XDE to apply its own merge logic when a merge must occur. IBM lists Clear Case (of course) and MS Visual Source Safe as compatible source control tools.
Is Vault 1.2 or 2.x compatible with XDE merging?

Good question. We didn't do anything to specifically be compatible with Rational XDE, but we do allow you to specify an alternate merge tool. I guess the only way to know would be to try it out, and run some tests...

How would I specify that it use an alternate merge? If I can tell it to use the XDE merge for the xde files, I think that we will be in good shape?

Go to the client options screen -> Diff/Merge options, and specify the program path to the merge tool.
Good luck,

We're currently evaluating Rational XDE 2003 and wondering how well it integrates with Vault. Does anybody know if jmarsh had any luck specifying an alternate merge tool to use with XDE? Or if there are any other issues with using XDE with Vault?
Thanks

We have not heard back on it. We don't do anything special to integrate with Rational XDE, but we do allow you specify alternate merge tools. If you test it out, let us know how it went
