VS 2005 IDE Client - Proxy Problem

Post by redcamel » Tue Jul 24, 2007 12:37 pm

When I use the Vault Client it prompts me for the proxy username/password. However in VS 2005 the IDE client tells me Authentication Failed. Is there something in the IDE I need to configure to use this client? Also I can use the web browser in VS fine (prompts for my password)

Do you have a proxy configured in the Tools - Options - Networking of the Vault client?

The Vault GUI itself has a username/password it uses for your regular Vault login that has nothing to do with the proxy, and that would be the same that you use for VS. Were you logging in under any other username before?

Was that VS project ever tied to a different server than what you are trying with currently?

Did it ever work previously?

The vault client works fine. I have it set to use system default and save the user/password. With the vault client everthing works fine. However using the Visual Studio intergration it gives me the above error. I used the VS piece on my home workstation to connect to the vault server (however there's no proxy) it works fine. It's only at work (there is a proxy) when I try to use the Visual Studio intergration.

Is your Vault server internal to the network at where you work? If it is, then you don't even need to use that. I've seen users have problems using proxies internally before. Try changing the setting to not use the proxy, and just try connecting right to the Vault server with either the server name or IP address.

Sorry…. I’m being confusing…

Vault server is external on the internet.

There is a HTTP proxy between my client and the Vault Server.

1.) Using the Vault Client everything works fine.

2.) Using the Visual Studio Integrated Client in doesn’t work. I get the proxy authentication failed.

Are you using the VS2003 compatible client or the new VS2005 client setting in your Tools - Options - Source Control settings of Visual Studio?

I've reproduced this problem. Even when you save the password via the stand-alone client, you get this in the VS 2005 client. We'll have a fix in 4.0.3, due to be released Real Soon Now.

Thanks for taking the time to look at it. I really like vault so far, I've only been using it for 3 day. The only thing that I've had the problem with is the IDE piece when I'm behind the proxy. I works great anywhere else. I'm sure it's only a minor code tweak on your side so I'll look foward to the next release.
