Client to Server Windows Authentication Problem

Post by blaze6947 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 1:22 pm

I am having problems with this, I put the name of my company AD in and created myself as a user and left the password blank but when using the client from my desktop to connect to the server I am being told that my username or password is invalid. I am not sure what I need to do.

I went back and added a password to my user account on the server with the admin tool and I still get the same message.

Was this username working previously?

Do you know if you were using Active Directory authentication? AD authentication is set up in the Admin tool (or website depending on your version).

What version of Vault are you using?

The Admin password works when I login to the admin tool. I did put my company AD name in with the admin tool but I am not sure if it is working because I was not able to log in with the client using my personal user account without going back to the admin tool and adding a password to my individual user account

Do you know if the user names for every user matches their active directory user name exactly and that no one has configured passwords? How many users are in this system?

Hi,

There are 3 users setup, the one I am testing with is myself.
When I added myself as a user, I didn't create a password but after not being able to connect, I went back into the admin tool and gave my user account a password. I could delete my user account and recreate it if I were told how to if that would help.

The Client app prompts me everytime for it.

THanks!

There are a couple of things to clear up, which may be causing your problem.

1. You need to configure the user in Vault to use Active Directory authentication. Go to http://VAULTSERVER/VaultService/Admin/Users.aspx, click on the user name, and select the Active Directory Domain from the dropdown.

2. The Vault client will always prompt for the username/password. Our AD integration is limited to the server verifying that the password entered matches the password in Active Directory.

I think we pinpointed the issue off-line. Vault is running under a local system account instead of Active Directory. For other users, you must use the custom process model in the IIS Process Model during set up and user an Active Directory user there for Vault to run under.
