Version: SOS Client 4.0.1
We have some projects that contain files that may not be seen be some users. In SourceSafe explorer the files of these projects are not showed when these users log in.
In the SOS client however this is not the case: the file list is visible.
When trying to retrieve a particular file that will fail.
For security thats ok, but I expected a clear reason in the log.
Is there a solution to this?
Filelist of secured projects visible to unauth user

There was a change in methods for getting VSS permissions between 4.0 and 4.0.1 that should speed up operations for some users, but it relies more heavily on the SourceSafe automation component.
From your description, I'd guess that your server is using a VSS 6.0c copy of ssapi.dll (the VSS automation interface). Servers with 6.0d installed do not display files in folders for users with no read permission.
We have a bug logged to document this behavior in 6.0c, but it hasn't been done yet. This problem was deemed the lesser of the two evils (degraded server performance being the other one) since a relatively painless remedy is available: upgrading the server's copy of ssapi.dll to 6.0d.
