Despite how it might appear, I'm NOT trying to be a jerk, I'm asking a legitimate question.
For me, this has been a really frustrating experience. This problem has been present, and discussed in the forum, since version 1. Having both written commercial software, and worked the support desk, this problem meets the top criteria that I would have looked for when prioritizing feature requests:
1) It's broadly desired and requested
2) It's significanly increases security
3) It's additive - i.e. it doesn't change or impact any existing features.
4) It's very easy to implement.
5) It's very easy to test.
Since it's been left out of three major revisions, there's clearly some disconect between what we (users) think and what the dev team thinks. So, what is it?
Perhaps it's the fact that this only really appies to those of us using Vault across multiple locations WITHOUT a resorting to a VPN. That limits the target audience a bit, but I thought that that was the primary selling point of Vault.
Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you could enlighten me here. It's frustrating to not get this feature after multiple years. It would help a bit if I could understand why it isn't a priority.

How should I set up a secur Vault site for off-site users?

I understand this has been frustrating for you. The first post for this feature request from you was on February 5, 2007. And while this feature is not particularly invasive, there are some testing issues we need to address to implement the feature correctly.
To answer your question, there is no disconnect. We want to get this feature into Vault, but we want to make sure it is done correctly.

Thank you for the response.
Over the years, I'd watched the boards and seen the same basic question (How can I make a secure website with Vault?) come up again and again. The responses are vague, and the customer responses with 'Really?' or seomething to that effect. Each time a new version is due, we all get excited that the security and installation will be addressed, and it's not.
I finally decided that since the question 'How can I...?' wasn't getting anywhere, that I would stop lurking and ask for the features necessary to secure Vault. So, I bought gold support, and asked.
Now, that gives me an idea. The question 'How can I install Vault securely?' has never been answered in detail (at least I've never found it). I seem to have gotten farther than most people, perhaps I'll write a post on how to get as far as I have. If I'm right, it will get a lot views and responses. If I'm wrong, then you can push my requests to the bottom of the pile.
