What kind of file is the file that gets checked out if you say continue?

When I click Continue (I didn't do this before since the dialog made me think it was "dangerous"), I receive a message indicating that my session has been lost to the server. Easy enough, so I tried a few things.

First, I was able to checkin a modified file with no problems.

From VS I clicked Source Control -> Open from source control...
This prompted for credentials. I entered my password, the Vault was opened, and and I could browse the folders. I entered an invalid password afterward to verify that my credentials were being authenticated the first time, and they were.

From both VS and the shortcut on my desktop, I opened the Vault client, and entered my password (the username is remembered, and I'm entering the same password I did in the previous step). I received a message that the server could not be found. I read this to mean that my credentials are not being accepted.

So in some cases my machine communicates with the Vault server fine, and in others it can't. I have no idea where to look.

I ran into the same error. In my case the file that got checked out is web.config in an ASP.net web project.
