Will 4.0 Client work with 3.5.1.4786 server?

We're currently on 3.5.1.4786.

For the 4.0 upgrade process I plan to have a test run on a separate server.

Therefore I need to know:

If I upgrade my client to 4.0, will I still have access to my production 3.5.1 server?
If 4.0 will not access 3.5.1, will I be able to install both clients side-by-side?

From the Vault 4 release notes:

Vault 4.0 is not backwards compatible with previous versions of Vault. In essence, Vault 4.0 clients will only interact with Vault 4.0 servers and vice versa. Vault 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, and 3.5 clients and servers are not compatible with Vault 4.0 clients and servers.
