VS 2005 Integration - looks like no go for x64

Post by neal007 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 9:09 am

I am guessing you all have done no development, testing, or support for x64 clients, i.e. us Windows Vista x64 users? I am showing only the "VS 2003 Compatible Client" in my Tools...Options...Source Code Control area. I am reviewing the documentation and I am not seeing available options as described:
In order to configure Visual Studio 2005 to use the new VS 2005 client:

· Open Visual Studio 2005

· Open the Options dialog by selecting the Tools menu and choosing Options.

· In the Options dialog, select the Source Control node.

· In the Source Control panel, select the SourceGear Visual Studio 2005 Client in the current source control plug-in drop down box.
As a customer, I request to be on a mailing list so you can inform me of product updates. I am a Gold Support subscriber, I didn't learn of your v4.0 release but for my routine checks for updates. I hope you will inform me of your next update that properly supports Windows Vista x64.

Thank you.

On my Windows XP (x86) machine I do see both options, however, I'm not sure what the VS 2005 client does! When I open my existing project, however, it always reverts back to the 2003 client when I go to Tools...Options. Do our projects need to be converted to use the VS 2005 client, whatever that does for us?

Very frustrated to say the least! I reviewed your documentation, it is NOT up to par for the price point of this software, it is "kindergarden" level documentation. Minimal discussion, no pictures showing the different features, no scenarios of use to educate on pin, cloak, share, branch, etc.

I expect far better from this company, I am impressed with Vault as a source control tool, I am not impressed with everything else surrounding it! You have a long way to go yet to mature the aspects surrounding Vault, I'll leave it at that!

It seems like the installer didn't configure the VS 2005 client properly on your Vista 64bit computer. We'll get that corrected along with the other Vista 64bit install problem.

I discussed the difference between the 2003 compatible client and the 2005 client in the other thread.

Did SourceGear do a test install on an x64 configuration prior to releasing version 4?

Yes we did, but obviously not well enough. You seem to be treating this failure as an evidence that SourceGear will never care about 64bit systems. We do care, we want to support them, and we will fix the problems that you've seen. On Monday, we'll give you a build to make sure that it installs correctly on your system.

I know that you've had several issues with this upgrade, and thank you for your patience so far.

Neal,

Please email me using the button below this post. I will provide you with a client installer that should fix your vista 64bit installation problems.

For other people encountering this issue, contact me, or wait until the 4.0.1 is released.

I'll wait for 4.0.1, from another thread in Gold Support it sounds like using the 2005 integration may not be such a great idea! I actually should have waited about 6 months before moving from 3.x to 4.x, in my opinion this looks like one of SourceGear's worst releases.
