Speed is SLOW!

Our network is poor. Bandwidth is pitiful. Servers are slow pigs. Our app has 1,264 files. We're using VS 2005. Because of all this ... SOS is slow!

I know, it's NOT SourceOffSite's fault, but that said, are there any "tricks" to make things fast? (or at least faster?) We've got three programmers. One each in New Jersy, Texas and California. We all use VPN. Just opening the VS project takes 4 minutes while the SOS update process runs (for all 1,264 files). BUT, SOS has saved our booty more than once. So SOS must stay operational.

What "tricks" would help us with speed?????

Thanks. That information is extremely helpful.

But I had hope somone has figured a way-of-using VSS/SOS which reduced the bandwidth needed, or approached things a bit differently. Anything which will realize higher speed, even at the cost of a few features?
