API : Getting branch info

Is there a way to get branch info of a file using the Vault API?

I would like to get the 'branch from' information such as where the file is branched from. From the client GUI, it is stated "Branched from $/a/b/" in the ACTION column in the History Explorer.

I'm writing a migration program and I'm having problem getting files which has been branched.

I think your best bet there might be to upgrade to Vault 3.5.x or 4.0 when it comes out. I think those versions could print out a branch.
