Unable to change server/port on automatic connection if fail

I had a 4.0 client set to connect to a 4.0.1 server automatically. After changing the port number on the server, there is no way (short of using regedit) to adjust the client so that it can connect. The client says it's trying to connect to the original port and the only available option is to exit. I can see this problem occuring if a user enters the wrong port number and had set the connect automatically option.

The client should allow "File / Connect to server" to allow me to update to the correct port number.

If the port has changed, the connect will fail and eventually time out (perhaps after a minute), and then the Connect to Server menu should be enabled again.
