Error when starting SOS service

I have win 2000 server. I just installed the demo version 4.2. When I try to start the service i get the following --- "Could not start the SourceOffSite 4 Server on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists ....

I have dot net framework 2.0 and have modified the config file per your instructions. However I got the same message as before modifying the config file.

Please advise.

I don't think you need to modify the .config file for 4.2, as it should work with the .NET 2.0 framework.

Is there a log.txt file in the SOS Server directory? Any errors there?

Anything reported in the Windows Event viewer?

Figured it out. It was installed on a differecnt server than the ss db. needed to provide login credentials.

Do I need to restore the config file? or will i be ok?

If the SOS Server is running it's probably fine; the configuration maybe just be redundant.
