Access denied

Post by lgumbs » Fri Apr 23, 2004 2:25 pm

Whenever a user tries to access this database through SOS client
I get the error message :

Operation Failed - $/

The log on the SOS server has this message:
Access to file "\\Sun-dev\VSS\SOURCE\data\a\asrgaaaa" denied

However users can access the same database through VSS client
with no problems.

Any ideas why this is happening?

This error points to a permissions problem. It's possible that the SOS server service does not have access to the drive or directory which holds the VSS database.

To resolve this error, we recommend the following steps:

1) specify the path to 'srcsafe.ini' file in Server Manager using a UNC
pathname. (The UNC pathname will be used if you browse for the
'srcsafe.ini' file through Network Neighborhood as opposed to a
mapped drive).

2) If the database is on the same machine and you are using the System account,
verify that the System account has at least read/write permissions to the VSS directory.

If the database is on a different machine, configure the SOS Server service to run as a Domain account
rather than a System Account. On Windows 2000, go to Control
Panel ->Administrative tasks -> Services -> SourceOffSite -> (right-click)
Properties -> Logon... Make sure it is set to a valid network user
name which is authorized to access the VSS database. For example:
domainname\username.
