Import From VSS - Duplicate Working Folders

Post by kevinw » Wed Oct 25, 2006 4:48 pm

Having got my data in from VSS now, I am trying to set the working folders within Vault. I have a problem. In a few places, I had more than one project with the same working folder in VSS (I subdivided the files in VSS rather than on disk for whatever reasonat the time). Vault objects to this.

What is the best way to correct my imported data so that Vault is now happy?

Starting with Vault 3.5, it is not allowed to set more than one thing to the same working folder.

If you want a similar structure in your working folders as you have in your Vault tree, then you can go up to root, set the working folder there, and click the option to force subfolders to use that as well.

We have had a few requests for changing how this works. There were some users having issues with having more than one item set to the same working folder. If you have a preference as to how you'd like to see it work, just let me know.

To be honest, I can live with Vault working differently in this case (I have only ever used VSS for source control before - for many years).

I realise I have two choices to solve this. One would be to separate the files into two different folders on disk, in which case the working folders in Vault for be different.

The other would be to move the files from the second Vault project into the first, so they are all in a single Vault project and only one working folder would be needed. It is how to do this that I need to know (including bringing the history with them)?

Select the files, select File-Move, select the destination folder. For some reason, this function isn't on the context menu when you right-click on the files.

That worked fine, thanks.

No.

Nor, unless I am missing something, is the ability of when doing a show folder differences, the VSS ability to right click on a file which exists on disk but not in the repository, and add it from there.
