Where does the key go?

Post by westar » Fri Oct 06, 2006 9:04 am

I downloaded and installed Vault 3.0.7 for the server. Login to
Vault Admin and get the following message " Could not get public
key from server" So I went to sourcegear and registered for a
30 day key. Soucegear sent me an Email with the key code in it.
Where does this key code go so that Vault Admin can see it?
Thanks for the help.

Add the key to the license tab in the Vault Admin tool.

When first installing though, the Admin account should be able to login. I think that error might be a security issue. Just check out this thread on it: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?p=26320

Next issue

Post by westar » Fri Oct 06, 2006 1:13 pm

I am not seeing the message "could not get key from server" anymore
I went to the RSA\MachineKeys folder and set permisions. Thanks.

Now I am getting another message " The vault server could not establish
a connection to the database. Please check the server's log for detailed
information (failDBconn). I looked at the log file and it is basicly stating
the same thing. Any ideas on this one?

One more question is the administrator login "administrator" or
"admin".

Thanks for the help

I'm still suspecting some sort of permissions issue.
At the end of this forum posting is a listing of a few things to check.
http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?p=27566

What version of SQL server are you using and which server OS?

What is the physical layout of SQL Server / Vault Server? Same machine? Different machines?

What does your connect string look like? How is SQL Server configured for accepting connections (named pipes, TCP/IP, Windows Auth)? Any firewall or other device which may require Authentication in between Vault Server / SQL Server?

How are you trying to connect to the SQL Server - Windows Auth / SQL Server Auth?

Also, are you using IP address or machine name for the SQL Server? If server name, can you try IP address?

Are you using a named instance?

Do you have any special SQL Server client configuration for connectivity?

Here is the info that I could locate

I am running Server 2003 with SQL 2000 as the database.
They are both on the same machine. They are both new
installations. And I have not used SQL 2000 for anything
other than Vault. (It would be safe to assume that the
settings are default SQL 2000 settings)

I downloaded vault 3.0.7 from the sourcegear website.

The server is configured for namedpipes and TCP/IP.
The firewall is off on the server 2003 OS settings
The connections are set for SQL server and windows
authentication.
I tried the IP address and machine name for the login
and still recived the same error.
I am not sure what you mean my named instance?
I don't think that there are any special SQL server client
configs for connectivity since vault is the only thing
that I am running on this machine. I do not have any
clients pointed to this server yet.

I did look at the other links with no luck. Vault is still not
seeing the SQL 2000 database that is loaded on the same
machine (PC).

Should I use "administrator" or "admin" as the username
for the Vault Admin Tool login.

Thanks

Have you checked in the services of the Administrative Tools on your Windows server to ensure that the necessary services for SQL are started?

Named instance comes into play if you have installed more than one SQL server on the same server.

Could you tell me what options you chose as you installed?

Fixed the problem!

I decided to re-install vault so I could look at what options were choosen.
I wrote down all the steps and options. In one window it asked:
" For Vault to run properly NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
must have read/write permissions to the following folders":

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\VaultService
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto
\RSA\MachineKeys
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\VaultService\VaultShadowFolder
C:\Windows\Microsoft .NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP .NET files

It prompted would you like to make the changes now. I clicked OK.
I assumed that it would change the permissions on the folders automaticaly. After the install I looked at all 4 folders and they
were set for "do not share this folder"

I changed all 4 folder for sharing and now I can log into Vault
Admin Tool and do not receive any errors.

Thanks for the help
