Adding new files

Post by eboykin » Fri Aug 18, 2006 11:43 am

I came across a strange behavior that I do not understand. I am using vault v3.1.8.

Here are the steps:

1. Click on a folder in the vault
2. Go to Add Files/Folders or Detect New Files to Add
3. Click on the folder once to select files not in the exclude list
4. press Ok

What happens is the vault creates a new FOLDER and adds the file. Now, I assume that is because I clicked the folder but that doesn't make any sense to me. Does the vault assume I am adding anything I select to the working folder I was in when I hit Add?

If that is the case, how do I filter my individual files so I dont have to sort through a rediculus number of expluded files to find the one file I want to add? Why isn't there a way to apply the exclude list as a filter of some sort to the file list?

The behavior you are describing indicates to me that you used Add Files/Folders instead of Detect New Files to Add. Are you just trying to add a file you don't currently already have in Vault? If not, and you don't have anything added from that folder, can you tell me what you are wanting to happen? If you have it integrated with an IDE, then you would want to add from within the IDE.

Should read the docs more closely

Beth,
thanks for your reply. You are correct. I was adding files and not detecting new files to add. Once I realized that the add files dialog was showing me the local file structure I figured out how it was working.
Detect new files is what I was expecting. I'm all straightened out now.
