Is there such thing as a Pre-scan log?

Post by jdavidi » Fri Aug 04, 2006 6:36 am

Greetings!

Using VSS Import Tool 3.5.0 - I'd kicked off a VSS import attempt yesterday at 9:29 AM EST, and the pre-scan finished at some point after I left for the day. I was just curious if there was a log file/db entry that could give me a metric on how long the pre-scan itself takes? If it at all plays into some magic formula, the estimated import time displayed on the wizard screen when I came in today for the import is 1.13:53:10 .

Thanks!

The import log should have timestamps of what is going on when. Here is more information: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=1761.

The import log itself was created yesterday when the pre-scan began, but remained blank until I began the import proper itself (the first few lines have this morning's date on them and signify the start of the export).

I can do a feature request for that information to be logged.

In the meantime, I think if you know when you started the command and when the import proper began, that will give you what you are looking for?

Not really, unless there's a way to use the import tool from command with a silent option...? Then it would be the diff between the start time and the first log entry. But nothing seems to get written to the import log until you've paged through the rest of the wizard following the pre-scan, and I just wasn't sure how long that wizard was waiting for input from me.
Thanks for the info though!
