SourceGear Vault client not starting

Post by JeffH » Wed Jul 26, 2006 12:24 pm

I have a Citrix server running Windows 2000 that has the Vault client loaded, but when you try to run it, it just disappears. There are no errors in the event logs, no Dr. Watson errors, no error messages. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Can anyone give me a clue as to where to look for the issue or what could be the problem?

Thanks

Jeff

Is there a client process running in Task Manager?

Maybe the client is off the screen somewhere? If so, find this registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SourceGear\Vault\Client\Settings
and delete FormMain.

The client is not running off screen. The "VaultGUIClient." shows up as a running process and then disappears.

Are you running any additional security software with your Citrix server such as Sanctuary that would prevent the application from running? Can you run the Vault Admin tool? Have you tried accessing Vault via the command line?

If you have a Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 running Windows 2000 Server, there has been an issue logged on their site with some application launches failing. (http://www.dabcc.com/dabcc/webapplicati ... Channel=13)

Can you give me some more details on your set-up to help pin-point the issue?

Thanks

We are not running any additional security software. We are using McAfee 7.0 on the servers. The Vault client is the only one installed, no admin tool option. I do not know how to access the client via the command line.

We are running Windows 2000 w/ MetaFrame XPe. Both are up to date with hotfixes. Both servers are the same hardware. Dell 2650, 4GB RAM.

It works fine on one server but not on the other.

You are saying you have two servers that are exactly alike with the exact same software installed? Is the same projects being worked with on both, or do they deal with separate projects?

Could you send me your Vault server log?

I think also that you will find Vault much easier to configure with the use of the Admin tool and will want to install that next time.

Yes. We have two servers that are exactly alike, same hardware and software config. The same projects are being worked on both servers.

Where can I find the vault log?

Where do I send it to?

We have a gold support contract. I have updated my registration.

What are the differences between the client and the admin tool? I was only told to install the client by our developers.

By default, the Vault Server log file is located in %WINDIR%\Temp\sgvault\sgvault.log

Older log files will be named with the convention
YYMMDDsgvault.log

You can send these to support@sourcegear.com.

The admin tool is useful for configuring the Vault server. I usually recommend installing all components on a server just so they are available in case one needs to troubleshoot a problem.

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding what you are saying, but it sounded like you said you only installed the client on your Citrix server without installing the Vault server.

Can you load the Vault Service page using Internet Explorer?
Open a web browser to the page http://VAULTSERVER/VaultService/VaultService.asmx where VAULTSERVER is the hostname that you entered into the Vault client's login dialog. What do you see after doing that?

There is no log located on this server.

I only loaded the vault client on the Citrix server. The Vault server is loaded on another server. To load the client, I went to the webpage and selected the client for install.

The Citrix Server with the client loaded is the only machine having issues? (Sorry if some of my posts seem confusing, I keep thinking server side.)

So that we can look at some sort of log, enabling client side logging would be useful. Here is a link to some information for setting that up. http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?p=5375

Also, do you have any errors in your event log?

I have enabled logging and have sent the log as requested.

There are no errors in the event log.

We have three Citrix Servers with the client loaded. Only one of them is having an issue. The other two are working fine.

The log hasn't made it to me. Did you send it to either beth at sourcegear.com or support@sourcegear.com?

Thanks for the log. Can you look through your event viewer or machine logs and see if there are corresponding errors there as well? I think there will be.

Thanks

There were no errors in the event logs.

I no longer need assistance with this. Due to an issue with a bios upgrade, the server is inoperable. A new server has been rebuilt. No more errors.

Thanks

Jeff
