How does one do a remote check out of source?

Post by BBM » Tue Aug 01, 2006 6:54 pm

Hi,

How does one do a remote checkout of source (over the Internet) from a Vault Repository?

I have vault installed (ver 3.5) on a Windows Server 2003 PC that is also my Domain Controller. I have sucessfully done adds and check outs from clients of my Vault Server from within the network, but can't figure out how to do a remote check out or add.

Thanks for your help.

You need to have TCP/IP access to the Vault server. If you can reach the server from your remote site, you're all set. If not, because it's behind a firewall, you'll need to get access to it somehow, such as by using a VPN, or opening up a port on your firewall for it.

Thanks for your response.

But I'm still confused (not unusual for me unfortunately).

Is this what you do...

1) Start the Vault client on the remote system.
2) On the Login screen input a valid Vault Server User Id and Password

3) For the Vault Server I input???

a) the IP address of the Vault Server machine? Mine is behind a router but the packets should be routed to my server if they're on port 80 or I can forward any other port to the server by configuring the router.
b) the IP address and port number? (if I want to use a specific port)
c) the URL of the Vault Server machine? (Help says this is wrong, but it doesn't say anything about remote access either)

d) No you're completely confused, do it this way...

Thanks for your help...
