Problem connecting to Vault server

Post by stevebacher » Fri Jul 21, 2006 8:43 am

I have been unable to connect to our server ever since I upgraded my notebook disk. I had copied all of the files to the new disk. When I keep try to connect, after 1-1/2 minutes, I get the message:
Unable to connect to http://192.168.0.138/VaultService. No server was found at the specified URL. Please verify your network settings using the Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client. Web Exception: The operation has timed-out.
I have run the URLs:
and
and they work.

I have posted this before but was never able to get a resolution.

Another thing, I have been able to run the client inside of a Virtual Machine (also XP Pro), just not in the main Host OS.

Is there a way to totally blast the install from my system and reinstall? I have reinstalled the client with no difference.

If you need the log file and the VaultCleint.exe.config file from my system (logging has been turned on), let me know because for some reason I cannot attach them to this post.

I do remember this from earlier this year; we tried everything we could think of:
http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=5425

Can you connect to our demo server: vaultdemo.sourcegear.com? You can create a login here:

http://www.sourcegear.com/vault/demoserver.html

There may be an issue with the protocol being used to connect to the Vault Server, since (if I am recalling this properly) you can connect via straight HTTP with the web client.

I cannot connect to the demo system via the client. I get the same error. Web test work though.

It's possible that something on your machine is blocking SOAP messages and XML content used by the Vault GUI Client. Sometimes this is a firewall or proxy and can be an ISP issue. But since your Virtual Machine works fine, it's probably not an ISP problem but specific to your machine.

You can uninstall the client through add/remove programs and also delete these registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SourceGear\Vault Client
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SourceGear\Vault

I don't think the problem is with the client itself, though. I'd suggest continuing to look at personal firewall, anti-virus, network card and any other things that involve connectivity.

I have shutdown Zone Alarm, Symantic Anti-virus, Windows firewall and anything else I thought might be a problem. No Luck! Any other ideas? Also, can the Vault repository be accessed a browser? This might at least allow me to get to our source.
Thanks, Steve

Any other ideas?
You mentioned when you upgraded your disk, you "copied over" all the files. Maybe this caused a problem with certain network-related software?

Another idea might be to run a protocol analyzer to take a look at the traffic from the regular machine vs the traffic from the virtual machine. You can get a free tool at this link:

Also, can the Vault repository be accessed a browser? This might at least allow me to get to our source.
You can access the repository via the web client, but this is read-only and meant for browsing the repository, rather than for source control operations. You can download one file at time but can't checkin, for instance.
