Update Vault without CheckIn/History

Post by DaleL » Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:14 pm

Hi All-

I'm brand new to this forum and to Vault. I am currently working on implementing Vault for our software development team which works completely virtual. So far, I'm very impressed with the product.

One question that keeps coming up is, as we work concurrently on a project we find ourselves checking in files quite often so that others on the team can get the latest version. Is there a way that we can "freshen" the files on the server without keeping history unless we specifically want history?

Thanks in advance!

While Vault and other verison control tools provide easy remote access to a repository of files, their main purpose is to track every change to every folder and file. This is helpful if you want to know who to blame for the broken build (at SourceGear the hapless person has to buy doughnuts), or if you want to retrieve code from a certain point in time.

There's currently no way in Vault to turn off history. But we have had requests from other users to be able to limit the amount of history that's stored. I'll add your "vote."

Thank you for the quick response! I like the doughnut idea, though we'd have to settle for Virtual Doughnuts or UPS Second Day Doughnuts
