VSS Import - do I require VSS to be installed on the machine

Do I need VSS to be installed on the machine before I can import the VSS database??

I am getting the following error msg:

Opening: C:\Data\Microsoft Visual Studio\Microsoft Visual Studio\VSS\srcsafe.ini
User: admin
**Failed** to connect to SourceSafe. Ensure that SourceSafe is installed on this machine.
COM object with CLSID {783CD4E4-9D54-11CF-B8EE-00608CC9A71F} is either not valid or not registered.
VSS database open: False

The VSS Import tool uses the SourceSafe automation component to communicate with the VSS database. The VSS Explorer Client supplies this automation component. Install a VSS client on the VSS Import Tool machine; for best results, we recommend the Microsoft 6.0c HotFix version:
