Latest version shown is not correct -- history shows later

Post by mbw » Wed May 03, 2006 1:19 pm

Using vault client and server 3.1.6.
Example of problem: in Vault client, latest version of file is shown as 14.
But when I right-click to show file History, the latest version is 17.
This causes "Get Latest" to fail totally.
This is only happening on some files.
Help!

Ok. We may have found a workaround after losing several hours.

I was in a Group in which nobody else was.

Adding me to the same group as the others seems to have fixed the problem.

I consider this a bug because the behavior was erratic.

That's strange. Were you previously in a group that had no rights to the parent directory of the file you were trying to get?

No. And the problem happens seemingly randomly on some but not necessarily all files in the same directory.

To be clear: in the main display of the Vault GUI client, in the list of files in a directory, for example the Vault client might show that the latest version of a file is 14, but if you right-click and show History, it shows that the latest version is 17.

Your client side cache files were probably out of sync with the database. When new rights are set for a user, the client side cache is refreshed. This could explain why adding you to a group caused the view in the client to be back in sync.

In the future, if you see inconsistencies in the folder tree or file list, you can delete the client side cache and it will be recreated. Details here:

The problem was not confined to one client machine.

The problem moved with the user account.

The same behavior was observed when I logged in on a different client machine that I had never used.
