trouble connecting to SOS v4

Post by Mark B » Mon Apr 05, 2004 4:44 pm

I have just installed SOS v4 on a Win2k SP3 server. SOS v3.5 is also running. After installing SOS v4 client and importing my IKY file, I cannot connect to a database; i get the following:

The server was unable to locate an encryption key

Also, two VSS db's have been configured with aliases in server manager, but the db dropdown on the connect dialog in the client lists one by alias and the other by full path (but obviously the first problem is the big one ;-)

Thx ...

OK, I realized that my v4 SOS client was trying to connect through the v3.5 server. So I shutdown the v3.5 server, and now when I try to connect, I simply get:

Unable to connect to server

The server log has:

4/5/2004 6:27:55 PM - Failed to start listening on port 8890 - Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port)
is normally permitted

So what does this mean - aha! The v3.5 server had the port; so I bounce the v4 server and all is well - thanks!

If you change the ports that one of the servers listens on you can run both the 3.5.x and the 4.0 servers at the same time (if you really need to).
Go Illini!
