I am brand new to Vault. I've been trying to get Visual SourceSafe to work over the internet for the past few days and have no more hair left to pull out of my head. Hence I am trying to get Vault installed and working.
I installed the Server, it worked beautifully. I couldn't even get SourceSafe to configure itself for internet access without receiving errors with no help explanation.
I installed the Vault client on my development system. Immediately after installing the Vault client, I loaded up Visual Studio 2005 and loaded a Website I'd created as a test, just the default Web Site that VS 2005 creates when you create a new Web Site. VS reports the following errors:
Package Load Failure
Package 'VsRptDesigner Package' has failed to load properly ( GUID blah blah blah) Please contact package vendor etc etc. Would you like to disable this package in the future?
I select no. Which brings up the next error:
Package Load Failure
Package 'Crystal Reports Tools Package' has failed to load properly etc etc, same as above.
I know you are going to say "Report Designer and Crystal Reports have nothing to do with Vault" however, it seems to me that it was the Vault client install that caused this. 5 minutes before the install, I had loaded up VS 2005 and created this web project and had gone back into it multiple times without receiving the above errors. Now immediately after installing the Vault client they appear.
I didn't know trying to have version control would be such a nightmare. Just trying to have confidence in your product, that it isn't going to break my development environment. If I can get it up and working, you'll have a buying customer.
Thanks,
James Vitale

Hello James. I'm Terence, a developer here at SourceGear and I'll help you get to the bottom of this.
This is a unique problem as we've never received a support issue where merely installing Vault, causes VS packages to fail. As such, I need you to do a couple of things for me please.

- If you uninstall Vault, does the problem with your package not loading go away?
- If you create a project, with Vault already installed, do you get the same package-loading errors?

Uninstalling Vault does not cause the errors to go away.
BTW, I just want to say that I'm really impressed with your product and want to buy it. When I mentioned nightmares up above, I was talking about SourceSafe. Vault configured itself properly and connected to my remote database without a hitch... other then this problem. I'm not sure how I can show that the Vault install was the source of this problem. I know right now it looks like it can't be. What I do know is that this computer is a test system, not being used for general development, so I know for certain that nothing was done to Visual Studio 2005 between the time I created the web project and the time I installed the Vault client.
At this point, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Crystal Reports 11 and VS 2005. I can now open and create web projects again without receiving the package errors. Is there anything you want me to do before I attempt reinstalling the Vault client again?
Thanks,
James
Thanx, James.
Yes there is something thing I'd like you to do, but it's going to be rather lengthy.

- I'd actually like for you to uninstall Crystal Reports.
- Install Vault first
- Install Crystal Reports
Then let me know if everything works. After you've run this test, I'd like for you to - Uninstall everything again
- Install everything again. However, this time, I'd like for you to install Vault last
The idea here is to see if installing Vault breaks the reporting again.

Terence,
I'm unfortunately under some time pressure and I couldn't resist installing vault client straight away. Everything works fine... or at the very least, it isn't causing the probelms that I originally reported. At this point, I'm willing to pretend it never happened and move on trying to get this working so I can fulfill my project deadline. I still have to learn how to USE your software now that I have confidence it'll play nicely with VS.
I may be able to revisit this configuration in the future, but for now, thanks for your help.
