Vault CRC Issue

Vault CRC Issue
I have been having trouble with the vault since I changed to a an AMD64x2 processor and new motherboard and rebuilt my machine with Windows XP (32 bit edition). The machine has both .Net 1.1 installed and .Net 2.0 installed. I had originally reported my problems but found that we were running such an old version of the vault that it didn't make sense to bug you until we upgraded.
Both Client and Server are running 3.1.8.3771
I get the same result whether I am using VS 2005 integration or the Vault GUI.
Here are some symptoms. If I make a lot of changes to a file and checkin it it fails. Often times a larger new file also fails (not sure of the limits). When I copy these files to my laptop and retry the operation everything works fine. Currently I'm staring at the GUI where it is "Resolving 1040 Unknown files" (and counting the number changes about once every 10 minutes or so). I actually asked it to do a get latest on a few of these unknown files, but the Get Latest Dialog has yet to appear. If I try to do a get latest on a directory or a checking of a directory... if the directory is too big I can forget it (I get a failure message).
So nothing is crashing, but the VaultGUI sometimes runs Really Slow! And checkins often report failure.
I checked the Vault Log file and I found a couple entries that may shed some light:

This appears to be machine-specific since this does not occur on other user's machines or on your laptop.
Regarding the CRC errors:
Upon committing any file, the Vault server does a CRC check to make sure there was not an error in the file transfer to the server.
Is there anti-virus or firewall software that could be blocking the upload?
The other errors indicate that Vault is having problems determining the current state of the file.
The FailOutofDateObjVerID error indicates the client-side baseline files are out of sync with the database.
Do your files have an "Unknown" status?
Are you re-setting working folders, or deleting the _sgvault folders
resulting in Unknown file status?

I missed the last question. No, I'm not copying over that folder on my main desktop. When I do run into the problem I do copy over my laptop's full directory (overwriting those folders, but only so I can either add or check something in).
BTW, I am using a different antivirus on this machine which I just uninstalled and replaced with the same Antivirus as the laptop.

Linda,
Ok, I've looked at all the stuff that might be conflicting, and I'm pretty sure it's not my problem. The software I'm developing is actually passing huge files (100mb +) over HTTP and they are working fine (Ok, I've not sent a 100mb file to our test server which is not local to me... actually it's the same server our vault instance is running on, but I have sent it a 10mb file with no issue). I'm not sure of the technicals of sending files via Web Services (which I assume is what the Vault does).
Actually my laptop and my desktop both run Grisoft AVG Antivirus, and both use the Microsoft Defender for AntiSpyware. I have Microsoft Firewall installed on both machines (XP SP2), but it is disabled in both instances. I do have a hardware firewall (router) as previously mentioned.
I don't really see anything else that could be killing the transfer (and the macine appears to be free of any kind of Spyware or other Nuisance).
What do I need to do next? I'll be more than happy to give you a list of the services installed or a software inventory). BTW, I do have V-Com's System Suite Installed (just the system tools -- AntiVirus and Firewall are uninstalled), and the suite doesn't have any kind of INternet Acceleration installed at all. I'm just really perplexed.

Abother update: This morning the ValutGui is acting like all the files are resolved... I can actually use it, but I still have a couple files I can't check ing (there were some last night I still couldn't check in).
The message is this "The server returned an unknown error header: VaultFileUpload.aspx encountered: FailDeltaApply"
The difference in files sizes is 2k (I added 2k to the file)
(I'll pull the log up later if you like)

FailDeltaApply generally means the baseline is out of sync. See this KB article about how baselines and deltas interact with files in the working folder:
http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=562
Copying files into the working folders, rather than fetching them from the Vault server can cause Vault to lose track of the state of the files and create the kinds of errors you've encountered.
To resolve the current problem, you could try backing up the modified files, then do a "Get latest" to fetch a new baseline. Then put the modified file back into the working directory. If the file is checked out, status should be "Edited."
If that doesn't work, try deleting the state folder (_sgvault). This usually is in the client-side cache files or in the working folder, depending on the settings in the Vault Client Tools->Options->Local Files Cache/Backup location.
You should backup any modified files in the working directories, before you do this, as file status will be Unknown and you'll need do a "get latest" to retrieve new baselines.

Linda,
I just copied out all the files that I currently can't check in. I did a get latest on the whol project. Then I checked out 2 of the files again, and overwrote with the original versions. Finally Idid a check in. The VaultGUI reports: 3/31/2006 4:52:22 PM] Upload for item $/DMME/WebSites/DMME/Orders/OrderPage.aspx.cs failed too many times, aborting transaction.
Please verify your network settings using the Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client.
The specific error was "The server had an error processing the file upload but did not return an error header. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error."
An exception was encountered during the transaction. Exception: The server had an error processing the file upload but did not return an error header. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. at VaultClientOperationsLib.ClientInstance.UploadItem(ChangeSetItem item, String txID, Byte[]& streamBuffer, Int32& bytesWrittenThisFile, Boolean bIsImport)
at VaultClientOperationsLib.UploadThread.ProcessCommand(UploadThreadCommand command, UploadThreadCommandResult& outputResult)
[3/31/2006 4:52:22 PM] Transaction failed
And the log files shows the following. I'm going to try your other idea.
----3/31/2006 4:46:07 PM jay--user-142gg90.cable.mindspring.com(72.40.65.32)--SSL Disabled Login

How large is the larger file?
Have other users been able to upload files of that size and type?
Check your settings in the GUI Client under Tools->Options->Network Setting. If chunked encoding is disabled, enable it. If that option is checked, disable it.
Could you send me your most recent sgvault.log file? Email it to Linda at SourceGear.com. Be sure to provide a link to this forum post.

I tried removing the cache removal to force a get and therefore a new baseline. What I got was the following error in a popup "Server was unable to read request. --> There is an error in XML document (1, 1018). --> The '<' character, hexadecimal value 0x3C, cannot be included in a name. Line 1, position 1025."
And there's nothing in the log.

One of the files is about 38k larger. The other two are 4k and 2k. The large file is about 111k. The other 2 that I currently am fighting are 17k and 14k (well, within what I would expect that others are uploading... the largest maybe getting a litle large).
I will be emailing you the log file shortly...
