Merge Difference problem

Hello, I am a new Vault user. I am having a problem every time I try and do a "Show Difference". It always shows my local file as read only. I have made sure that I have the file checked out and have also checked the file system and the file is not read only. The only way I have been able to get around this is by right clicking in the right pane (Local file pane) and say "Save As". Once I do that the file is no longer read only and I can do my merge.

Any help would be great!
