Version mismatches

Hello, is it safe to have different versions on the server and the client?
Currently we have version 3.1.2.3511 on both server and client. We wanted to upgrade to 3.1.7 on the client. Is this safe?

We recommend that both client and server be on the same version, but a 3.1.7 client should function with a 3.1.2 server. However, bug fixes that required changes on both the client and the server between those two versions will not work properly.
