"Open from Source Control"?

Post by shutterstock » Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:13 pm

What is the recommended method to open a project?

I use the same project on 2 computers (home computer - and office computer)..

Sometimes it seems as though i can open the project from the local folder, sometimes I open it from the "Open From Source Control" option in the File... menu..

what is the preferred option? are there drawbacks to either?

This is a good question...

I also am curious what the answer to this is. I rarely use the "open from source" option as I don't fully understand what occurs with regards to working folder and the repository.

Open From Source Control is only supposed to be used the first time you use a project on a new machine. It creates a binding from source control to the local folder you will be using. It is not recommened to use Open From Source Control after you've established the source control binding, because it has a lot of extra work to do than just opening the project.

Just doing a regular File-Open is the recommened way to open. It will automatically bring up the Vault login dialog to enable source control operations.
