Source Off Site Installation Configuration (IIS)

Post by bting » Tue Jan 17, 2006 2:21 pm

I am new to Source Off Site and would like to know if the following is possible.

DMZ
- Source Off Site
- External ports 80 and 443 are open
- IIS installed and we currently have web sites running on both port 80 and 443

LAN (Behind firewall)
- VSS database

Is there a way to configure IIS to forward requests to the SoS server on either port 80 or 443 and still have our web sites service requests on the same ports?

Thanks.

IIS doesn't interact with SOS at all. Also, SOS uses TCP/IP, not HTTP.

The solution would be to open a port for the SOS Server. If you use the SOS Server secure port, users would use encryption, which is fairly secure.

You can configure SOS to use any port not already used by another application on the machine. This setting is in the SOS Server Manager. .

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, I realize that SoS uses a TCP/IP port, however in our case, we only allow ports 80 and 443 open on the server that resides in our DMZ. Opening up a different port (other than port 80 or 443) is not an option for us. What would be your recommendations?

Should we set up a different (dedicated) server without IIS, and have the SoS service request on either port 80 or 443?

Setting up a separate server for SOS would probably be the best solution. You should be able to use either port. You might try 443, as port 80 may be hit by a lot of unwanted HTTP traffic, which can interefere with SOS traffic to the SOS Server.
