Files missing in Pending Change Set

Post by joakimwg » Fri Dec 23, 2005 4:42 am

I have my Vault client (v.3.1.5) set up for CVS mode and sometimes (actually almost all the time) when I make changes in my working folders the changes doesn't show up in the Pending Change Set. The client clearly notice the differences since if I choose Show Differences the changed files are marked as changed. The only way to have files show up in the Pending Change Set seems to be by explicitly select Show Differences on eached changed file individually (using the Refresh doesn't do the job). Is this how it's supposed to work, my understanding was that the client should detect the changes and show changed files in the Pending Change Set?

I have attached the settings that I thing might affect the behaviour.

Yes, it should work. I just tried it with your client-side settings to be sure. Is there anything different about your setup? For instance, we've had reports of this behavior when users had the same working directory for multiple folders.

There's nothing strange with my setup it's a common tree structure. The deep is no more than five levels counted from the working directory root. This project isn't that big, about 40 folders, 500 files in total and one folder that holds 30 files.

I guess that this is a client-side thing, are there a way to turn on some sort of logging functionality. To make sure that the client scans all sub-folders and see why it does skip some files?

Does each folder and subfolder have its own working folder?

You could turn on client logging and see if there are any errors that get reported as part of scanning or the watcher thread that is supposed to update the pending change set when files change in working folders.

See http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?p=7806 for details. Turn on both the "watcher" and "wf" logging classes.

Each folder and subfolder does have a unique working filder. The whole project where exported from our VSS data base (no errors reported). I did set the working folder for ProjectX (see file structure below) to point at the same folder as I used when using VSS (I also checked "Force all subfolders to use inherited working folders").

/MyProjects
|- ProjectX
| |- Doc
| | |- Spec
| | |- Manuals
| |
| |- Sw
| | |- Code1
| | | |- Include
| | |
| | |- Code2
| | | |- Include
| | |
| | |- Code3
| | | |- Include
| | | |- Code31
| | | |- Include
| | |
| | |- Code3
| | | |- Include

I have attached a log file from where I had three files that where changed (in different subfolders under Sw) before Vault where started. I had Vault running for a couple of minutes ad it didn't detect any changed files, then I did some searched the changed files were not detected. Next I did a "Show difference" on the Sw foldera and its subfolders, now the diff-util shows the files as different but they doesn't show up in the "Pending Change Set".
At 2005-12-30 11:10:33, in the log file I explicitly points at on file and does a "Show Differences" on this file only, the diff-util shows all changes made to the file. When the diff-util are closed this file shows up the "Pending Change Set".
At 2005-12-30 11:11:08, I do the same thing again for one of the two reamining changed files with the same result as before.

It looks like you're using the .NET framework, do I have to have any specific version installed? I currently have v.1.1 Service Pack 1 (v.1.1.4322.2032) as default and also v.1.0 Service Pack 3 (v.1.0.3705.6018), are there a requiremen't for v.2.0 or higher (I don't thinkt it is since Vault doesn't complain)?

Updated to the latest .NET frame work (v.2.0.50727.42), this didn't help either.

We'll have one of our developers take a look at this. We're on holiday staffing, so it may be the first of next week.

One thing:
| | |- Code3
| | | |- Include
| | | |- Code31
| | | |- Include
| | |
| | |- Code3
| | | |- Include
Do you have two folders at the same level with the same name?

No the spaces wasn't shown as I expected in this forum. It should have been formated as below.

Code: Select all

| | |- Code3
| | | |- Include
| | | |- Code31
| | | |- Include
| | |
| | |- Code3

It still looks like you have two Code3 folders at the same level in the same parent folder. It might help if you would send a screen shot of your tree which shows files modified in a folder and the pending change set. You can post it here or email linda at sourcegear.com

We didn't see anything helpful in the client log. Some more questions:

1. Are you the only one on your team with these problems?

2. If you log in on another machine, does it work properly then?

3. If you exit and re-enter the client, does it show up then?

4. If you invoke checkin by right-clicking the folder icon in the tree, does
it show up in the checkin dialog?

Ok the hierarchy is screwed up, it's just an example (there's just one Code3 folder (and it's not called that in my real project)).

I think that I have been able to track down the problem here. I wiped out my whole local project folder, and did a "Get Latest Version" again, since then it seems to work as expected. I think that Vauld got confused when I was playing around with the configuration options (namely the backup and cache folder options) and was nevere able to figure out the correct state for the files after that.
