History Explorer suggestion

Hi

I am not quite sure whether it is the right forum for this; anyway I use Vault 3.1.2. It would be a great thing to have History Explorer items to be available to be sorted by any field (User, Date, Version, Comment...). Currently nothing happens when clicking on a header of the ListView or whatever it is.

You can sort the list, but you need to do it on the History Filter/Sort Dialog. The headers do not sort because the list is virtualized and not all results may have been retrieved from the server.

In any case, the History Filter/Sort Dialog is displayed while invoking history (you may need to hold down the shift key while invoking) , or choosing Query->Filter/Sort from the History dialog's menu.

Once you get this dialog, choose the Sort tab, set the sort order, and re-submit the query.

That's not entirely true. You can't sort or do any filtering (except by date) if you are viewing changeset history (View folder history by version) instead of item history (View folder history by item).

It sure would be nice to do all of that sorting and filtering on changeset history as well.

Well, yes. History by version is just that History by Version (sorted by version).

I didn't interpret the original question asking about History by Version. In any case, there is a feature request for sorting History by Version currently scheduled for Vault 4.0.

Well I think of history by version as just another facet of history (and when I want to see history of a folder I almost always want to see changesets, not items) so I just wanted to point out that it was lacking sorting and filtering.

I'm glad to hear that there's a feature request for sorting and filtering changeset history for 4.0.

Actually upon reflection I don't think of it as history sorted by version, it seems like a very different set of history. And actually, occasionally I'd even like to see the labels in the changeset history list.
