Connection Problems to the SOS Server

Post by spichr1613 » Wed Nov 23, 2005 4:56 am

We run SOS 4.0 and VSS 6.0 on Windows 2000 Server SP 4.

From time to time we are not able to connect to the Server. If we restart the server than it works for a while:

Server Exception (407): [OPTIONS / - Input string was not in a correct format.] - UNRECOGNIZED_MESSAGE
This error usually indicates HTTP traffic on the port used by the SOS Server. This can happen if someone tries to connect to the SOS server port via a web browser. This can also crash the server.

Can you log in from an SOS Client on another machine? Or does the problem happen to everyone at the same time? Do you get any type of error message from the client when it's unable to connect to the server?

Thanks,

First, check this KB article to see if you might be experiencing a concurrency crash with the VSS automation component.

We have seen this error before: Server Exception (407): [OPTIONS / - Input string was not in a correct format.] - UNRECOGNIZED_MESSAGE
But we have not been able to reproduce this here.

"Unrecognized Message" means that the SOS Server got a message it doesn't understand -- possibly from other traffic on the port SOS is using.

Could something be hitting the SOS Server port with HTTP or other traffic?

This problem exists on several machines. We can ensure, that there are no other services running on the ports 80 and 82. Either we don´t get any error messages.

Just right now we have a connection problem again. The error in the log file is different to the last one:

I neglected to put the link to the KB article in my last post. You may be getting a concurrency crash. See if these suggestions help:
