It is getting very frustrating to have lengthy searches I don't want get started while I'm attempting to set up a search I do want, or just start because I clicked on the Search tab.
Searches should only be started when I request that they start (by clicking on a button), and the search results should stick around until I exit the Vault client or start a new search.
Since this would mean that the controls that define the search to be executed no longer represent the search results, a line describing the search criteria that produced the currently listed search results should be displayed at the top of the search results.

Search Pane NEEDS a Start Search button!

I've thought this myself several times in the last week or two. I try to remember to set the status back to "Don't search" before leaving the pane so I don't have to deal with the pain of waiting for a search when switching to the search pane.
One branch of our tree consists of about 9000 files. We currently have three additional release branches that are about the same size, and a whole tree for third party components. A search at the top hits in the neighborhood of 50,000 files.
