Urgent: Rollback disabled?

Post by ismangil » Wed Oct 26, 2005 7:15 am

Ver 3.1.1

I have done rollback a few months, but today the rollback option in the history explorer is greyed out!

We never pin stuff.

And this is in all repositories.

Any ideas?

Rollback is not available for versions of a file that are before a branch operation. Has there been a branch operation on the file after the version you are trying to rollback to?

Oh. Crumbs. Yes, this file is recently branched. Is it then the solution is to just overwrite with the version we want from the main branch and check in?

Yes, that would be the recommended procedure.

Dan, why is that not allowed?

GregM:

Underneath the names of files/folders in the repository, the Vault server relies on the actual Object's ID. With simple rollback, the server just gets the version based on the object's ID, and sticks it back in the tree.

If the server allowed rolling back through branches, it would have to be able to walk the ancestor path of the object. Note it may have to walk that branched object's branch paths in the case of a branch of a branch, and so on and so forth for each branched path the object takes. Rolling back through object branches got sticky very quickly.

Now, there is a feature request to add this functionality to the Server. I've added a vote from this thread, but as things stand right now, it is low in priority as only one other person has ever requested this functionality.

Since you can "Get" that same version, that logic must already exist somewhere.

Had I known of this limitation, I would have requested it earlier. Please add another vote.

I put down votes for both Greg and you.

Thanks for the feedback.
