CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.

Post by eric@rentors.org » Tue Sep 06, 2005 4:59 pm

Folks:

I'm getting the following error message while trying to install the Vault server software:

OK
Configuring your new Vault Installation
Checking for IIS Version...Requesting Vault Admin user password...OK
Connecting to the SQL Server...OK
Verifying the SQL Server requirements...OK
Checking for an existing Vault database...Not found.
Creating a new Vault database on ewhserver180.edgewebhosting.net...
Creating the SourceGear Vault database...CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.
Vault Setup is exiting due to a failure or cancellation. Error Code = 402

The hosting provider says that they cannot give the SQL Server user permissions to create other dbs since it is a shared sql server.

Is it possible to install without the SQL Server user having CREATE DATABASE capability?

Thanks,

Eric Terrell

Yes, the installer needs to have create database permission. Any chance the hosting provider can allow this?

We can send you a backup of a Vault 3.1.1 databases that you can have restored to the SQL Server machine. Then you should be able to run the Vault installer, which will see that database and use it. Email Linda at SourceGear.com.
