Version Check

Hi,

We really like the version check in 3.1.1. However, we do have the problem that Vault tries to contact sourcegear to check for the latest vault version. Our firewall however does not allow this so it times out after a long time (30+ seconds). It would be great for us if the check to sourcegear was optional.

It is, and the version check message tells you where to turn it off.

Hi,

Sorry not to be more clear. I know how to turn it off completely but dont want to turn off comparing server and client version. I just want to turn off checking the sourcegear site.

There isn't currently a way to disable just the connection attempt to the sg server.

Does the client hang for 30 seconds while it tries to connect ?

[2005-08-25 15:36:00] Version Check: An error occurred when trying to retrieve version.xml file from the SourceGear website


As you can see, there are 42 seconds until it throws the error about "version.xml".

Sorry, I guess it is now my question that is unclear :)

Is the client completely hung during that time (where you can't do any other operations until the connection timesout)?

No, its not hung. Menus open, I can do the "About" and the "Abort current operation" (although abort does not do anything in this case). Also I can change tab sheets.

But the top panels are blank at this time (no tree, no files), status bar says "Connecting to Server" during that time.

OK, I think I'll add a feature request so that the client/server info is always displayed, but that the version check in the options applies only to whether to connect to the SG server.
