Client never starts

Post by Brian Stark » Mon Aug 15, 2005 3:20 pm

When I start run the Vault application I see some hard drive activity, but the opening splash screen and dialogs never appear. Another user is able to connect with his client to vault, so it appears to be the client app on my machine. I first noticed the problem after MS security updates were installed on 8/12, but the problem persists even after I removed these updates. I am seeing VaultGUIClient.exe in task manager on the processes tab.

Sorry, apparently it was the issue mentioned above and the MS updates were just a red herring.

We're seeing this too - any answers

We're seeing the same problem and none of the regular solutions seem to have worked:

1. We disabled the splash screen.
2. None of the disks are full.
3. Deleted the FormMain registry key
4. Reinstalled Vault Client.

This is using the .NET Framework 1.1 with SP1. And the hotfix described in KB886903.

This problem just started on one node and we can't figure it out.

The client starts and then hangs with the splash screen displayed (when the registry is set to allow the splash screen). In the log file, we have:

Same here.

The client and server are both 3.1.1. This computer was working fine yesterday. I can start fine on another computer.

The server log shows no activity when I attempt to log in. I can use a web browser to see the VaultService directory and VaultService.asmx page.

This problem just started on one node and we can't figure it out.
Node of the folder tree, network node?

Have you checked for a virus?

Any software updates?

I did a full scan with the virus scanner and ad-aware, nothing.

The status bar displays "connecting to server" or something like that, and it just sits there.

I installed VirtualPC last week, and have installed a couple virtual machines a couple days ago, but other than that, no new software.

My client was a victim of a malfunctioning UPS driver. Once I disabled that service and rebooted, everything was fine. The night before everything broke, the computer blue screened and rebooted. The two are probably related.

Anyway, everything is fine now.

Greg, could you email me the name of the UPS software? We've had some reports of UPS software causing problems with our SourceOffSite Server software and I'm curious to know if this is the same thing.

Thanks, Linda. APC Powerchute Business Edition 6.x will not start after July 27, 2005, due to an expired Java certificate. That was what was causing my problem. Since Thursday morning was the first time the machine had rebooted since then, that was when it started.
