Bug? Filename missing in history

Post by dprice » Tue Jan 25, 2005 9:18 am

Using: SOS 4.1

I was trying to figure out when a file was deleted from a project, so I did a history on the project (including files). SOS shows the deleted history, but does not show the filename, while VSS does. See attached screenshots.

Thanks,
Derek

Hi Derek,

This has been a problem we have tried to deal with for a long time, but the fault lies in the VSS Automation component which the SOS Server relies on for interacting with the VSS database. Basically, the VSS Automation component does not provide the same history information that you see in the VSS explorer.

Have you asked Microsoft to fix this? It is annoying not to be able to tell what was deleted.

I just received word from Microsoft that this was been fixed in May 2005 and will be available in VSS 2005.

Thanks,
Derek

That begs the question, are you going to support VSS 2005 with SOS 4.1?

Yes, we do plan to support VSS 2005. The automation component of the current CTP has a bug that prevents SOS from retrieving any files, but Microsoft says this will be fixed in the final release of VSS 2005.
