SourceOffSite 4 - Server Error

Post by FredCK » Thu Mar 18, 2004 11:34 am

Hello,

I'm having problems with version 4.0. The following message is shown when the client tries to connect to a database:
"The server was unable to connect to the SourceSafe database.
Check your server's log file for additional information."

From the server's Log:
18/03/2004 18.36.41 - Connection accepted from 63.94.186.48:12556, session id is 1.
18/03/2004 18.36.43 - 1: Exception during Login: QueryInterface for interface SourceSafeTypeLib.IVSSDatabase failed.

I'm running Visual SourceSafe 6.0d. I've tried to re-register the automation component (as explained at http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=255) but the same error occours.

Version 3.5.3 worked well in the same machine.

What can I do now?

Thanks in advance.

Are the VSS databases on a different machine than the SOS Server?

By default the SOS Server service uses the System account, but if the databases are on a different machine, this local account won't have access.

If so, change the account running the SOS Server service to a domain
account. This can be configured on Windows 2000 in Control Panel ->
Administrative tasks -> Services -> SourceOffSite -> (right-click)
Properties -> Logon…

You may have had this configured correctly with SOS 3.5.3, but the SOS 4 installer installs a new service that would default back to the System account.

Still not working! Visual SourceSafe and its database files are located in the same server as SOS.

I don't know what to do... for now, I'll switch back to SOS 3.5.3.

Best regards,
