I've been running into this a lot lately, and it's starting to get annoying.
Sort the file list by status, so that old, missing, etc. are at the top of the list.
Scroll all the way to the top of the list, so you can see the first file.
Notice that some file that you know is old (because you just got the email) isn't at the top of the list with the others.
Press F5 to refresh the list.
Sit there waiting for the refresh to finish and the file to appear.
Notice that the refresh is done, but the file is still not at the top of the list with the others.
Finally notice that the scrollbar thumb is no longer at the top of the list, and that the reason that you can't see the files is that they were added above the top of the list, and you are no longer looking at the top.
In a directory with many files, the gap can be really small, and this is made worse by the XP theming of the scrollbar that makes it nearly impossible to find the thumb in the first place. (I'm turning XP themes off as soon as I no longer need them for my development work.)
This may be the way it's designed (keep the current selection at the same position in the window), or it may be just an accident, but either way, it's really annoying.
