I manage a team of offshore developers. One way for me to monitor their activity is to document what is checked out, and when it is returned. Does SOS logging capabilities support this, or must I continue to do so manually? And is this something that might be provided in the future.

There's no specific reporting for this in SOS. The SOS log file in verbose mode shows the logged in user and file gets, but it doesn't show checkouts specifically. It does show checkins.
The Status Search in the SOS Client (in the Tools menu) can search on files checked out by all users.
Visual SourceSafe has a Journal feature, which creates a file where all VSS commands that change stored data are logged.
I'll log a feature request for some sort of reporting in SOS, but I don't think it would be implemented anytime soon.
