Using a 4.0 Client agains a 3.5.3 server

This seems to be working, is it a supported/recommended configuration.

Is there any benefit or concern of updating the clients before the server?

Would the reverse also work (4.0 server with 3.5.3 clients)?

SOS 4.0 clients can work with SOS 3.5.3 servers and SOS 3.5.3 clients can work with SOS 4.0 servers. This allows some backward/forward compatibility if the server or clients can't be upgraded right away, or if a user has to connect to two different versions of the server.

To get all the benefits of new features and bug fixes, however, you should use both the SOS 4.0 client and SOS 4.0 server.
